George G. Morgan - The Expert
Background and Experience
George G. Morgan has been working on his own family genealogy since he was ten years old in North Carolina. His aunt and grandmother sparked his interest by recounting stories about their early years, about family traditions, and about prominent colonial ancestors. He became engrossed by the contents of dozens of boxes of letters, family papers, Bibles, deeds and photographs in his grandmother's home, and soon became the family historian and archivist.
Mr. Morgan is president of Aha! Seminars, Inc., a Florida-based company that works almost exclusively with library cooperatives and consortia in providing continuing education to library employees and professionals. The company teaches people to use Microsoft's Windows and the Netscape Internet browser, Web page design, collection development and a variety of high-tech topics. In addition, Mr. Morgan teaches Genealogy for Librarians: How to Best Serve Your Genealogy Patrons and a variety of genealogy workshops for library personnel, genealogical societies, groups, and individuals.
Mr. Morgan has published a number of cover articles in the quarterly Genealogical Computing where, among others, his articles about the Library of Congress' Experimental Search System and the National Archival Information Locator (NAIL) have won him critical praise. He is a regular contributor to Ancestry Magazine and Southern Queries magazine, and has been published in many genealogical publications in the U.S. and Canada. His first book, 'The Genealogy Forum on America Online: The Official User's Guide', was published in 1998. He has completed a manuscript for his new book about planning a successful family reunion, and is working on a new book about how to organize and conduct effective cemetery research.
He is a frequent speaker at genealogical societies and conferences, and his first annual genealogy cruise, Genealogy Cruise 2001: A Family History Odyssey, was a smash success attended by more than 100 genealogists. Another genealogy cruise is being planned for 2002. Mr. Morgan has been invited to help work on preparations for the Federation of Genealogical Societies' annual conference to be held in Florida in 2003.
