Northeastern United States Research Class - Course Description
Class begins Feb 13, 2004 - Come join accredited genealogist Cindy Rowzee to find those lost ancestors in the Northeastern U.S. These lessons include information about all the records that a genealogist normally uses (census, vital, land, probate, etc.) as well as unique sources to these specific areas. This is important since records may be similar from place to place, but there can also be important differences. Records can contain different kinds of information, be found in different places, and start at different times. These lessons are designed to help you know exactly WHAT to look for, WHERE to look for it, and for WHEN you will be able to find them, so WHY not join us today! Prerequisite: A basic working knowledge of computers, please view the Beginning Computer Genealogy outline for requirements.

Cindy Rowzee - The Expert
Background and Experience
Cindy Rowzee grew up in upstate New York. As a child she watched her parents travel to neighboring states and to Canada in order to do genealogy work. It was at this time that her interest in genealogy began.

Cindy attended Brigham Young University, where she received her Family History degree with a focus on North American research. While in school she worked as at the Utah Valley Regional Family History Center. She also did several internships, one at the Utah Valley Regional FHC, one at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and another for the genealogical researching company, Lineages. After graduation she took the Accreditation Exam and became an Accredited Genealogist in the Northeastern States Region (now the Mid-Atlantic States Region). At that time she returned to upstate New York, where she has lived for the last several years.

Cindy is a Family History Consultant for the local Family History Center. She has also taught continuing education classes on beginning genealogy at the local community college. In addition to working on her own genealogy, she does a limited amount of professional research. Her passion is helping others to gain the skills they need to find their own ancestors. Cindy has just become the editor of the newsletter for the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogist (ICAPGen).

Cindy is currently a stay at home mom of two little girls. She spends most of her spare time working on genealogy.

Cindy Rowzee's Message
"Genealogical records are kept differently all over the world. Different areas of the US keep them in their own way as well. When doing your genealogy if you know just where to look or what special records to look for it will make doing your family history a lot easier. Come join me in this Northeastern US class to learn about the records in the New England and Mid-Atlantic States. When you are through with this class you will have a better idea of what records are available, for when they are available and where you can find them."
