David W. Webster - The Expert
Background and Experience
David W Webster was born in Tynemouth near Newcastle-upon-Tyne of Scottish parents, so he can lay claim to dual nationality as both a Georgie and a Scot.
After graduating with a first- class honours B.Sc. in chemical engineering from the Royal College of Science and Technology in Glasgow, David worked in England and Sweden before returning to Scotland and catching the genealogy bug. In addition to his professional career David has developed a substantial reputation over the last twelve years as a professional genealogical researcher in Scottish records, as well as the records of Scottish emigrants, not only to North America, Australia, and New Zealand, but also England, Ireland, and Europe.
Elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland in 2001, David has written a number of books and booklets on various aspects of genealogical research in Scotland. He has also written articles for a number of Scottish family history societies. In conjunction with the Scottish Genealogy Society, he recently produced a booklet on the history of the names of the Scottish regiments.
David has an established reputation as a contributor to many genealogical journals in the United Kingdom and North America. He also works closely with ScotlandOnLine, the company behind the recent successor site to Scots Origins, ScotlandsPeople.
David is experienced in giving presentations to all sorts of audiences, which he has done for the past twenty years. At the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History (ISBGFH) in Salt Lake City in October 2001, David was the instructor for the Scottish course held by the British Institute. The course ran the entire week and involved ten lectures, each one to two hours long; in addition, David held individual consultations with the course students. As a testament to his success, David was invited to return the following year, in 2002, to once again serve as the Scottish instructor for the ISBGFH British Institute.
On a trip to the USA in May 2002, in conjunction with a visit to NGS2002 in Milwaukee, David ran very popular all-day seminars at the Denver Public Library and for the St Andrews Society of Illinois Genealogy Group in Chicago; he also gave a half-day seminar in Richmond, IL, for BIGWILL (British Interest Group Wisconsin and Illinois). David has been invited by the Association of Professional Genealogists to be the speaker at the APG luncheon at NGS2003 in Pittsburgh.
