Now Playing - Pretty Woman

July 26 - August 5, 2003

This weekend we went to Jerri and Leonard’s to spend some family time together. Strange growing up, I would watch my father take us to his in-laws. He and my uncles worked hard to help my grandparents around the place. Our reward would be a fine meal cooked with my Grandmother’s love.

Now we look forward to going towards Enid with the ideas of going to Garage Sales. Strange how family events change over time. I bet deep down my in-laws wish we were going to show up and work.

I can not wait to get some little in-law’s to come to our house. I could use a strong son-in-law to do some building and some of the chores I have not gotten done this week. Hope when we get little in-law’s they come with their own tools.

At this current time, I am not in any rush to get one. The young ladies should know how to make pies and I have a list for them too.

City wide garage sales are wonderful. It makes the shopping quicker and the bargains are all over for the taking. Reckon a person could go broke buying bargains.

Sherry got the buy of the day for us. She got her first parts washer. It is a barrel on a hand cart and cost one dollar. So when ever we need to have some parts washed we will be able to do it quickly. Guess this is going to be a better alternative than her bath tub.

We are a blur of canning right now. With tomatoes coming in, they are quickly being turned to juice. The turkey is back to eating the tomatoes so I guess the weight loss idea did not stay with it for long. Maybe the turkey got to watching me and received some of my diet counseling and healthy choices. Was watching Sunday Morning on CBS, come to find out we are now in fashion. Even Martha Stewart is raising chicken. Never would have thought of that. The way I heard it, fashion in both New York and Paris is being based off of some of the colors and feathers of chickens. We are now in the popular group. It is good to be in fashion.

We have these Polish chickens. They have feathers on their heads that look like goofy little afro’s. Phillip sometimes dips their heads in the water to make their feathers spiky. Looks funny that way.

Wait until those people from New York City find out about bib overalls. Then I will be all the rage. We were missing one of the Polish Chickens for a couple of days. Due to their feathers we have been calling them floppy tops. Well Phillip was able to find that little rooster. Some how it had gotten out in the pasture and snuck over to the neighbor’s home and was living with their pig. Wonder what they were doing together.

This morning on Tradio I realized how we live in the Bible Belt. It is good to know that we live in an area where values are based off of strong Christian Morals. Some lady was trying to sell some Barbie dolls. These came with all their clothes. So none of those naked little dolls for sale around here. Phillip and I wonder if it is going to cost more to have the clothed dolls versus naked dolls.

Several years ago on this day I went to work. Stuck in my office door was this letter. It was from a young lady telling me to stay away from her. My good looks were bothering her and she did not want me to stand within five feet of her. In fact she thought I should transfer to the maintenance department. Thought it was a joke at the time. Who would have guessed, that someThe Editor & Mrs. O'Mara where out there, is a group of women attracted to balding, pot bellied men?

Hard to believe that she later agreed to marry me. Wonder if she still has those thoughts. Bet she did not know at the time I would be a chicken owner and in the popular group.

Welding is now over. We are the proud owners of a mailbox that weighs some 50 pounds. It does not blow in the wind that is for sure. Looking for a post big enough to mount it on. Next time someone hits it with their car bet there car stays put. Hope they have seat belts on when they do it.

The cows are going out on the corn stalks now. We placed sweet corn on a empty lot and grew it. Gave it all away, as its good to have neighbors. Now we are pulling up the stalks to feed to the cows. They enjoy that being from Nebraska and all. Only give them a stock or two a day.

We finally got some rain. We do not have a mud puddle on the place and got 4.8 inches. It was dry here. On Friday night I heard about some hail and thought at least that is moisture. Saturday it rained.

Glad for the rain. Life is Good.
