The Hadfield Family
Welcome to the Hadfield Family site, bringing together the descendents of Jonathan and Ann Presho-Hadfield..
Johnathan Hadfield was born in 1828 to Charkles Hadfield & Betty Ditchfield, in Ashton-in-Makerfield , Lancashire England.
On 19th August 1849, in Pemberton Church Wigan, he married Ann Presho (born in 1832 in Ince-in-Makerfield, Lancashire, England).
Jonathan was a coal miner, and Ann a cotton spinner.
They had 7 children: James 1850, Isaac 1852, Elizabeth 1855, Alice 1860, Catherine 1863, Mary Ann 1866 and Ellen 1872.
In the Census of 1861, not only Jonathan but his eldest son James aged just 10 years, were shown to be working as coal miners.
Isaac, his wife Margaret Hannah Owens, and their 5 children migrated to Australia aboard the "Duchess of Argyle", leaving London 13th November 1882 and arriving in Sydney 8th February 1883. They settled in Newcastle and had 8 more children.
Two of James' sons, Isaac and James jnr, migrated to Australia aboard the "RMS Orvieto" in 1914. These families settled in the Hunter Valley.
Catherine's children Jonathan (Harrod) , Frances (Mudd nee Harrod) and Will (Harrod) migrated to Australia with their partners in 1913.
Ellen's son William (Easton) also left England for Australia in 1913. He would return to England in 1916 with his cousin Arthur Hadfield to serve as an Australian soldier in the Great War.
Ann Presho died in Trimdon, Durham on 4 December 1874 when her yougest child Ellen was only 2yrs old. Jonathan died in Trimdon, Durham on 12 March 1901.
At present, our members include descendents living in England, Spain and Australia.
